What this service offers
The Looked After and Adopted Children service is also open to adoptive families and foster carers who are looking after young people. Our team offers foster carers reflective groups with more training and support. It also offers consultation to social workers or supervising social workers and foster carers.
The Looked After and Adopted Children service will first triage the referral. If agreed as appropriate, we will offer an initial assessment appointment.
The assessment will identify the behaviours and worries causing concern. After that our team will come up with a plan of intervention that suits the needs of the young person. We will review this often and share the plan with the young person and their family.
Our team can also make referrals to specialist therapeutic services such as family therapy, play therapy and art therapy.
Access this service
The Looked After and Adopted Children service accepts referrals from GPs, Practice Nurses and Secondary Mental Health Professionals. The referal will contain a brief history and a rating scale.
If a young person’s social worker or foster carers are worried about them, they should contact the LAAC team and ask for an initial consultation.
Sometimes other professionals write into the LAAC team and ask for an assessment. But our team always have to get in touch with the relevant social worker to make sure they know about the request. This is to make sure they are agreeable to the consultation.
