Our Home Treatment Team in West Suffolk provide an alternative to hospital admission. This service is for people who are experiencing acute mental health problems. The Home Treatment service offers intensive support to people in their own home.

What this service offers
Our service starts by providing a medical review with a Consultant Psychiatrist. This is then followed by a three-day assessment to identify the needs of the individual. This will include determining what support and / or treatment to give.
Our Home Treatment Team in West Suffolk offers people who use the service the following:
- Understanding of their current mental health issues
- Prompt treatment and support focused on recovery
- Referral on to other agencies and mental health services
- Visits tailored to their needs, more than once a day if required
- Carer involvement and support with care plans. This includes signposting to further community support for carers
- Access to a psychiatric inpatient ward where home treatment is not appropriate. We provide support upon discharge from the ward if needed.
Our Home Treatment Team in West Suffolk treat people with the following conditions:
- Depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Psychosis.
Our team consists of registered mental health nurses, psychiatric doctors and support workers. It also includes staff from occupational health and social work backgrounds.
People who use this service are unlikely to see the same person on every visit. Though each member of the team is familiar with their service user’s situation. Together we work towards their recovery.
Access this service
Referrals to our service come from the Access and Assessment team. They also come from Integrated Delivery Teams, acute psychiatric wards and Crisis Pathway Teams.
How this service support carers including friends and family
We encourage family and carers to form part of the assessment and care of people who use our service. This can be a regular interaction in to share information. Or to offer support and work together towards care.
This service also has links with community resources for carers.
Urgent help
If you use this service and need urgent help you should telephone your local Integrated Delivery Team (IDT).
Call 111 and select the mental health option to speak to our 24 hour mental health crisis line.
If you are with someone who has attempted suicide, call 999 and stay with them until the ambulance arrives.
If anyone is at serious risk of harm, call 999 and ask for the police.
