NSFT is urging people to share their views on its latest multi-million pound plans to improve facilities at the Hellesdon Hospital site in Norwich.

The Trust has been working with service users, carers, staff, stakeholders and the community to develop designs for new wards. The designs will further improve the safety and quality of the services we are able to provide.

It is now asking people to feedback their views on the latest proposals and let them know what works well and any areas for improvement.

The current plans would see:

  • Three new wards built to house a total of 48 beds.
  • Existing wards refurbished to create two further inpatient units providing 32 beds. This takes the total number of beds we are able to offer at Hellesdon to 80 and will see an extra 15 beds for the Trust.
  • Current buildings transformed into new offices and therapy areas.
  • A welcoming central hub created to link the existing wards to the new build. Designed to promote a feeling of community , including facilities such as a café, gym, fresh cook kitchen and reception.
  • Full use made of the outside space to create a peaceful haven where patients, staff and visitors can relax away from clinical areas. We hope this will have a positive impact on the wellbeing of everyone using the site.

Chief executive Stuart Richardson said: “Our aim is to create a welcoming atmosphere while giving the new campus a real sense of identity. We want to invite the community to share the space with us and benefit from it as much as possible, for example by using some of the facilities or outside space. We will be exploring how we can best achieve this as the project progresses.

“We have been listening to people’s views as we have drawn up these designs. We would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the latest plans before we move to the next stage of development.”
