Adventure day fun for young carers

A young carers in the trees during the adventure day

Young carers from across Suffolk enjoyed an action-packed day at Thorpe Adventure Park, Thetford, thanks to the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) and Suffolk Family Carers’ Young Carers Team.

The event, on 30 October, featured forest climbing, zip-lining, archery and other activities designed to boost confidence and resilience.

Carers Lead Julie Williams said the day was a huge success. "The feedback was fantastic. The young people had fun, made friends and learned about the importance of self-care and mental health,” she said.

“Beyond the excitement, the day provided these young carers a much-needed break and a chance to connect with peers, building their self-confidence and strengthening their support network.”

Young carers at the event said the day had given them “confidence, bravery, courage and friendship”.

Deputy CEO and Chief People Officer Cath Byford said: “It’s wonderful to give our young carers a chance to have some down time and mix with others who understand what it’s like to be in their position. Events like this help us work towards being a safer, kinder and better organisation.”
