New Governors elected to help trust deliver safer, kinder, better care

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) will welcome 10 new Governors to support the organisation’s ongoing improvement work across its services.

The Council of Governors represents the views of service users, public, staff and partners and helps shape the future of specialist mental health and learning disability services provided by the Trust. They hold NSFT’s Non-Executive Directors to account for the performance of the Board, and act as a key link between the Trust and the communities it serves.

Following a ballot of Trust members, the following candidates were elected and will join the Council on 1 February 2025:

  • Public Governors (Norfolk) – Ryan Taaffe-Fowle and Meryl Rushmere
  • Public Governors (Suffolk) – Eric Crossfield, Liz Jupp, Ian Lea and Rhiannon Read
  • Service User (Norfolk) – Rebecca Kellaway
  • Service User (Suffolk) – James Dudman and Alexander Hill
  • Staff – Lee Ridgewell

The votes were counted by Civica Election Services, an independent organisation which runs the election process.

Zoë Billingham, NSFT’s Chair, said: “Congratulations to all those who have been elected. Our Governors play a really key role in improving the services we provide, and I look forward to welcoming and working with them on our improvement journey as we continue our work to deliver safer, kinder better care to all those who need us across Norfolk and Suffolk.”

The Council comprises 23 Governors elected by Trust Members, eight appointed by partner organisations plus the Trust Chair. Elections take place every year for those governors who have come to the end of their term, or who have stopped being a governor during the previous year. They are usually elected for three-year terms.

Only members of NSFT can be governors and vote in governor elections. To find out about becoming a member, please visit: nsft.uk/membership
