Suffolk healthcare professionals graduate from preceptorship training with improved confidence to deliver safe care

This month a graduation ceremony was held for healthcare practitioners from the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) who completed their Preceptorship programme.

The preceptorship welcomes and integrates newly registered healthcare professionals and international nurses into their new roles, team and place of work. It prepares new graduate practitioners for clinical practice to support them to provide safe and effective patient care.

NSFT values our staff and their continuing professional development

The NSFT Preceptorship programme consists of 12 months of structured academy and reflective sessions with the support of the NSFT Nursing and Allied Health Professional Preceptorship workbook which supports professional practice.

The programme aims to start a lifelong journey of reflection and the ability to self-identify continuing professional development needs.

The Trust have been running this programme successfully since 2020. The annual intake of Suffolk students graduated this month and the Norfolk students should graduate later next year.

NSFT education staff celebrated Suffolk preceptees graduation

The Graduation was held on 5 December in Diss and Preceptorship lead, Glenda Jele, and Suffolk practice education facilitators, Febi Sayi and Alex Spiga, attended the day to celebrate the student’s success.

Clinical educator, Chris Chapman and staff development lead, Rebecca Webster attended to discuss future development opportunities within the Trust.

Mike Seaman, deputy chief nurse, was there to show his support for the preceptees and to share his journey, to inspire them to continue their professional development in mental health and care services.

Glenda Jele, preceptorship lead said: "The reality and transition can be challenging for the new practitioner, those returning to practice and those who are coming in as international recruits.
"The Preceptorship allows them to grow in confidence and feel valued by our Trust. It also aims to support retention and promote safer practice for our service users."
Cath Byford, deputy chief executive and chief people officer of NSFT said: “We are extremely proud of our newly registered healthcare professionals and international nurses who have completed this preceptorship programme.
Our trust is committed to valuing our staff and providing them every opportunity to grow and develop. This programme is an example of how we can support staff to thrive and enable them to deliver safe and effective patient care.”
