Michelle wins March's Star Award!

Congratulations to Michelle who is this month’s Star Award winner!

Michelle is an Assistant Practitioner at West Suffolk Learning Disability & Autism Team.

Michelle's nominator said: “Michelle is a great example of an Assistant Practitioner. Her service users are at the heart of everything she does everyday. She is always considering creative ways in which she can engage and empower the people she supports.

She recently went on an end of life /advanced planning course and came back to the team being very inspired. She was able to transfer the skills she picked up into other areas of her work and supported a service user to advocate her views in a way that was useful and meaningful to her.

More recently she has demonstrated great team player qualities by stepping up and undertaking tasks outside of her normal job role such as minute taking at clinical meetings whilst we await the start of a new admin to our team.

Michelle is always concerned about the wellbeing of others in the team and her longstanding knowledge of the service user group is much valued by us all. Thank you Michelle.”

Michelle said: “It was lovely that someone had put my name forward for the Star Award, in addition be recognised and thanked which meant a lot and gave me a real boost to know someone took the time to write the nomination. I had a particularly hard week and juggling many plates as we all do, so to receive the email to let me know I had won was unexpected.

I love my role as an Assistant LD Practitioner/Greenlight Champion working in the West Suffolk LD & Autism Community Team, I have been working in the team under many umbrellas for 25 years this year. I am privileged to part of a service users’ journey from the start to the end, meeting them, their families/carers. I am a great believer that with time, support and advocacy, people can achieve their goals in life. The service users have played a huge part in my life, and I hope in some small way I have helped them."
