Staff at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust are holding a week-long conference from 14 February to mark LGBT+ History Month and are inviting you to join them.

The conference is being hosted on a digital event platform and will offer a wide range of presentations, insights, and support resources for the LGBT+ community and friends.

The conference has been set-up by the Trust’s Out and Proud Staff Network Group which is chaired by Jenny Carlisle.

Jenny said “Our staff network really wanted to offer something both to colleagues and the communities we serve to not only educate, but also support those in the LGBT+ community and those who are our allies, our friends.

“What we’ve come up with is a week-long schedule featuring exclusive live presentations for our NHS colleagues on a very wide range of LGBT+ themed topics. We’ll be recording those presentations and making them available for the wider public to watch back throughout the week and beyond.

Karn Purvis who is the Trust’s Lead for Equality and Diversity added “LGBT+ History Month provides us with a great opportunity to look at the history of LGBT+ themed issues and to offer information which we hope will improve the experience of LGBT+ people in the future.

“We know that inequality in society continues to impact on LGBT+ people.  A 2018 study found that 52% of LGBT+ people had experienced depression in the previous 12 months. I’m really pleased that our Trust is giving us the opportunity to explore this and to ask ourselves how we can make a difference to those experiences.”

The conference will also be joined by a host of nationally recognised guest speakers.
