NSFT appoints interim Chief Nursing Officer

NSFT has appointed a new interim Chief Nursing Officer.

Tumi Banda will join the Trust, which provides specialist mental health and learning disability services in Norfolk and Suffolk, on Monday 10 July 2023 for 18 months. He is currently Deputy Director of Nursing and Practice at Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust.

Tumi will work alongside Diane Hull, NSFT’s current Chief Nursing Officer, until she leaves on 31 July 2023 before formally taking over on 31 July 2023.

Tumi is a registered mental health nurse who has considerable leadership experience. He has recently finished an interim role as Executive Director of Nursing and Patient Experience at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and has held other senior and professional leadership roles at Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and East London NHS Foundation Trust.

His appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process led by NSFT Chief Executive Stuart Richardson which also included the Trust’s Chair,  Non-Executive Director representatives, a service user, and the NHS England (East of England) Chief Nurse.

Stuart said: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming Tumi to NSFT. We are confident Tumi will bring a broad range of experience to bear and that he is committed to ensuring people’s voices are heard and acted upon to create positive improvement.”

Tumi said: “I’m delighted to be joining NSFT as the interim Chief Nursing Officer. I’m passionate about mental health nursing and the opportunities this new role will bring to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society and make a real difference to people’s lives.

“I look forward to working closely with service users, colleagues, and partners to help support the Trust on its improvement journey to deliver consistently excellent care.”
